Addis Ababa meter taxis are set to begin giving service in Addis Ababa as of September 9 / 2016, according to Addis Ababa Transport Authority.
High government officials will attend the launching event to be held at the Meskel Square.

Yigzaw Dagnaw, Public Relations Head at the Authority, said 26 share and three private companies were permitted to import 1,163 taxis duty free, of which 836 have already arrived in Addis Ababa and ready to start serving people.
All the taxis has a mechanical or electronic device installed in taxicabs and auto rickshaws that calculates passenger fares based on a distance traveled.
According to the authority it is preparing tariff for the taxis. and the Taxis will be deployed in areas that have transport shortages.
